Saddle Brook man pulls gun during foreclosure eviction
A man pulled a gun on Bergen County Sheriff Officers after movers came to remove his mother from her foreclosed home. Northjersey.com has the full story.
It seems that the woman lived in the home for decades but had recently refinanced the existing mortgage. The foreclosure judgment was over $400,000. According to the foreclosure notice, it looks like the loan was taken out by John J. Brennan, the man that was arrested, not his mom, who owns the house, according to the tax records.
The last transfer seems to be a quit-claim deed. It might be that the son refinanced his mom's home for some reason.
The auction was back in May and the movers only showed up today. The 10 day redemption period was well over but the time could be because of how long it takes to process an eviction. I wonder if the woman even knew what was going on? In the picture of her being escorted to the ambulance, she didn't look like she was dressed for a move.
First the woman that committed suicide because of her foreclosure, now this. Hopefully this mess can be cleaned up and the financial industry learns not to create any more bubbles.
Update:
Saw a comment on the story that is supposedly from a neighbor that knows the family. Looks like it was the son that took out the mortgage.

....the "88 year old woman", my dear neighbor and friend, did not have a mortgage. After her son moved in with her several years ago he transferred the deed to the house to his name for the legal sum of $1. Since he was her only child she agreed to give him her home. HE is responsible for what happened to the home she lived in and cared for and raised her child and his children in for more than 50 years. ...

All- It amazes me how much we are concerned with other peoples lives. The news speaks of all the terrible events in this country because it seems as though that is what people love to hear. That sickens me. This situation is horrible and upsetting. Not because it's a story, but because it's life. My life, not yours. I'm one of John's sons. I will not digress, but will say this... The son didn't get 100s of thousands of dollars and he didn't spend it on partying. He is a loving, single parent that has single-handedly raised his children since 1994. Not only did he provide for us, but he did a pretty good job of raising us (be it that I'm probably a slightly biased source). While further details would shed more light on just how difficult the situation has been for the family, those facts will remain in the family. I do not care to have our family's tragedy up to the public for general consumption through the media machine so others can have things to talk about over dinner. Thank you to those on this forum that know parts of the situation and are defending the family. Shame on those that equivocate it. Talk amongst yourselves...

John Brennan served his country as a Marine in the Vietnam War. He was there when the country needed him most, but why doesn't it work both ways?? Who helped cover his wife's bills when she had cancer in the '90s? No one. The company had to let him go. Who helped him cover the bills when he had a heart attack in 1999? No one. What about when he had a brain aneurysm in 2001? No one. What would you do if all your options were exhausted?
